What Diameter Actually Changes
Diameter controls how fast fat comes out and how forgiving the cannula is. A larger bore removes more fat per pass, which saves time in high-volume areas like the abdomen, but it leaves less room for error: aggressive passes with a large cannula are the classic cause of contour irregularities. Smaller diameters remove fat slowly and smoothly, which is exactly what you want near the skin surface and in visible zones like the face and arms.

What Length Actually Changes
Length is about reach versus control. A 15 cm cannula lets you feather precisely around an incision in the neck. Gauge vs Millimeters
Liposuction cannulas are normally sized in millimeters, unlike injection needles which use gauge. If you see gauge numbers on micro instruments, the rough conversion is: 16G is about 1.6 mm, 14G about 2.1 mm, and 12G about 2.7 mm. When comparing suppliers, always confirm whether the stated size is the outer diameter, that is the standard.
