Sizes, Tips and Fittings: How to Choose
Diameter or gauge
Larger diameters remove fat faster but leave a rougher plane. As a general guide, 4 mm to 6 mm cannulas suit deep layer, large volume work on the abdomen, flanks and back. 3 mm to 4 mm is the everyday choice for thighs, arms and intermediate layers. 2 mm to 3 mm is used for superficial refinement, the neck and the face. 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm micro cannulas are used for fat injection and facial fat grafting.
Length
Short 15 cm to 20 cm cannulas give control in the face, neck, arms and male chest. 25 cm to 30 cm covers most abdomen and thigh work. 35 cm to 40 cm is used for back, flanks and 360 degree body contouring where a single access port must reach across the area.
Tip pattern
Blunt multi-port tips such as Mercedes, triport and basket are the safest choice in soft fat. Spatula and cobra tips are preferred for feathering and superficial passes. V-dissecting and pre-tunnelling tips are used before fat placement. Sharp tips are reserved for fibrous release and should be used with care.
Hub and fitting
We supply Luer-lock hubs for syringe liposuction and fat transfer, threaded Toomey fittings for machine-assisted aspiration, and fixed handle versions where a rigid one-piece instrument is preferred. Handles are available in standard, ergonomic and finger-grip styles.

What are the different types of liposuction cannulas?
The main working patterns are Mercedes with three angled ports, double Mercedes, accelerator, basket, cobra, triport, spatula, candy cane and bullet tip cannulas for aspiration. For infiltration there are multi-port and six-spiral tumescent cannulas. For fat harvesting and fat injection there are Coleman, Toledo, Sorensen and single hole cannulas. Each pattern differs in port shape, port count and tip bluntness, which changes how quickly and how smoothly fat is removed.
How do I choose the right cannula gauge and length for liposuction?
Match the diameter to the layer and the length to the area. Deep, large volume work on the abdomen, flanks and back is usually done with 4 mm to 6 mm cannulas of 25 cm to 35 cm. Thighs and arms use 3 mm to 4 mm of 20 cm to 30 cm. Superficial refinement, neck and face use 2 mm to 3 mm of 15 cm to 20 cm. Fat injection uses 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm micro cannulas of 7 cm to 15 cm.
What is the difference between a blunt tip and a sharp tip liposuction cannula?
Blunt tip cannulas push vessels, nerves and connective tissue aside instead of cutting them, which reduces bleeding, bruising and the risk of contour irregularity. They are the standard choice for most liposuction. Sharp or semi-sharp tips cut through fibrous septa and are used selectively in dense, scarred or previously treated tissue by experienced surgeons.
Are your liposuction cannulas reusable or single use?
All ADAS liposuction cannulas are reusable. They are made from solid surgical stainless steel, can be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath and steam sterilised at 134 degrees C, and with normal handling they last for hundreds of cycles. That is why reusable cannulas work out far cheaper per case than disposables.
Do you supply liposuction cannulas with our own brand name?
Yes. We are an OEM manufacturer and regularly produce cannulas laser-marked with a customer brand, logo and catalogue numbers, with custom packaging and instruction inserts. Minimum quantities are low and artwork is approved by you before production.
