What is in this face lift scissors set?
This face lift scissors set is three Freeman Gorney scissors in 18 cm, 20 cm and 23 cm, with tungsten carbide inserts and serrated blades, covering the working lengths a rhytidectomy uses from the cheek through to the far side of the neck. The serration grips tissue instead of pushing it away, which matters on the thin mobile skin of the face. Adas Instruments manufactures the set in Sialkot from German surgical stainless steel.
Why buy the three together
- The plane changes depth as it travels. 18 cm handles the cheek, 20 cm carries the dissection under the jaw, 23 cm reaches the midline of the neck in one pass. Surgeons who buy one length end up buying the others.
- Tungsten carbide inserts. Carbide holds an edge several times longer than steel, which is what a long continuous cut through fibrous tissue demands. Tungsten carbide face lift scissors are the usual choice for a surgeon doing more than a few of these a month.
- Serrated blades. Fine serrations hold the tissue at the point of the cut. Smooth blades let thin skin slide forward and the cut wanders.
- Matched set, one specification. Three instruments ground and finished together, so the feel does not change when you swap lengths mid case.
- Cheaper than three singles. The set price is below the sum of the individual instruments.
Clinical applications
| Stage of the operation | Which length | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Preauricular and cheek flap | 18 cm | Raising skin from the SMAS where the flap is visible |
| Jawline and mandibular border | 20 cm | Continuing the plane past the angle of the jaw |
| Neck to the midline | 23 cm | Reaching the submental area without a second incision |
| Neck lift on its own | 20 cm and 23 cm | Working forward from behind the ear |
| Temporal and brow | 18 cm | Short controlled release above the orbital rim |
| Revision rhytidectomy | All three | Scar changes the plane depth as you go |

Care and sterilisation
- Rinse in cool water immediately. Blood dried in the box joint stiffens the action.
- Clean ultrasonically with a neutral pH detergent, joints fully open.
- Serrations trap tissue. Check them under magnification after cleaning, not by eye.
- Lubricate the joint with instrument milk before each autoclave cycle.
- Autoclave at 134 C for 3 minutes and dry fully before storage.
- Store the three flat in a tray. A 23 cm blade bends under a heavier instrument.
Frequently asked questions
Why three lengths and not one?
Because the dissection plane changes depth as it travels from the cheek into the neck. Using an 18 cm pair for neck work means restarting the cut repeatedly, and every restart is a chance to change level and tear the flap.
What does the serration do?
It grips the tissue at the point of the cut. On thin facial skin a smooth blade pushes tissue forward and the cut wanders off the plane. Serrated face lift scissors hold it still.
Is tungsten carbide worth it on a facelift instrument?
Yes, more than on most instruments. Facelift dissection is one long continuous cut rather than a series of snips, which is exactly the use that dulls a steel edge fastest.
How do these differ from the black titanium set?
The black titanium dissecting set is coated for glare control under a headlight. This set is uncoated with carbide inserts and serrations, chosen for edge life and grip rather than for visibility.
Can I order a different combination of lengths?
Yes. Tell us the three lengths you want and we will quote the set. We manufacture all five sizes from 14.5 cm to 23 cm.
