What This Blepharoplasty Instrument Set Is
A blepharoplasty instrument set is the tray a surgeon opens for eyelid surgery: removing extra skin, muscle and fat from the upper or lower lid. Eyelid skin is the thinnest on the body, under a millimeter in places, so the instruments are smaller and finer than a general plastic surgery tray. Adas Instruments puts 30 pieces in 19 patterns into this set, and every one of them is in the photographs on this page. Some catalogues call the same tray a blepharoplasty kit.
The handles carry a rainbow color coating. It is there for a practical reason. On a tray of 30 small instruments, a scrub nurse finds the Kaye scissors or the curved Iris forceps faster when the patterns do not all look the same. The working ends stay plain stainless steel or tungsten carbide.
What Is in the Set: 30 Pieces
Every line below is in the box. Quantities follow how the instruments are used in a real case: five mosquito forceps because small bleeders come in numbers, two calipers so one can stay set to the measurement taken on the first lid.
| Instrument | Qty | What it does in the case |
|---|---|---|
| Castroviejo caliper | 2 | Measuring and marking the skin to be removed, so both lids match |
| Iris forceps, curved, 1×2 teeth | 2 | Holding the skin edge without crushing it |
| Iris forceps, curved, serrated | 1 | Handling orbicularis and fat |
| Micro Adson forceps, 12 cm, 1 mm tip | 2 | Fine grip during excision and closure |
| Adson Brown forceps, straight | 1 | Steady grip on thicker tissue |
| Adson Brown forceps, curved | 1 | Reaching round the curve of the lid |
| Kaye blepharoplasty scissors, tungsten carbide | 1 | Skin and muscle excision |
| Kaye blepharoplasty scissors, ribbon fingers | 2 | Excision with a lighter, springier feel |
| Ragnell blepharoplasty scissors, straight, tungsten carbide Supercut | 1 | Undermining and trimming |
| Iris scissors, curved, tungsten carbide, 11.5 cm | 1 | Fine dissection and fat pocket work |
| Iris scissors, straight, tungsten carbide, 11.5 cm | 1 | Trimming and suture cutting |
| Castroviejo scissors | 1 | Delicate cuts close to the lid margin |
| Desmarres lid retractor | 1 | Everting the lid and exposing the fat pockets |
| Skin hook, 2 prong | 1 | Lifting the skin flap |
| Joseph skin hook | 2 | Retracting the wound edges |
| Micro mosquito forceps, curved | 5 | Clamping small bleeding points |
| Halsey needle holder, tungsten carbide | 2 | Closing with fine sutures |
| Needle holder, tungsten carbide | 1 | A second closing instrument for the assistant |

Key Design Features
Tungsten carbide where the cutting happens
Four of the scissors carry tungsten carbide edges: the Kaye, the Ragnell and both Iris scissors. Carbide is much harder than steel, so the edge stays sharp through more cases and cuts thin lid skin cleanly instead of chewing it. The Halsey needle holders have carbide jaw inserts too, which hold a 6-0 needle without letting it rotate.
Two Castroviejo calipers
Symmetry is the whole point of eyelid surgery. The surgeon measures from the lash line to the planned crease on one side, and the second caliper keeps that number while the other lid is marked. The calipers in this set have a black finish, so the scale reads clearly under a headlight.
Fine tips for thin skin
The micro Adson forceps have a 1 mm tip and the Iris forceps are curved, so the skin edge can be held without leaving a crush mark that shows later as a scar. The Castroviejo scissors work on a spring, not rings, for very small, controlled cuts.
Exposure without an extra pair of hands
The Desmarres lid retractor turns the lid out to reach the fat pockets, while the Joseph hooks and the 2 prong skin hook hold the wound open. In a lower lid case this is often the difference between needing an assistant and not.

Where the Set Is Used
These eyelid surgery instruments cover most eyelid operations a plastic or oculoplastic surgeon does in clinic or theater.
| Procedure | Instruments that do most of the work |
|---|---|
| Upper blepharoplasty | Calipers, round scalpel handle, Kaye scissors, Iris forceps 1×2 teeth |
| Lower blepharoplasty, skin approach | Desmarres retractor, Joseph hooks, Ragnell scissors, curved Iris scissors |
| Fat pocket removal or repositioning | Curved Iris forceps, micro mosquito forceps, Castroviejo scissors |
| Closure | Halsey needle holders, micro Adson forceps, straight Iris scissors |
| Revision eyelid surgery | Calipers for re-marking, 2 prong skin hook, tungsten carbide scissors |
Care and Reprocessing
Rinse the instruments straight after the case, before blood dries in the box locks and serrations. Open every ring instrument before it goes into the ultrasonic bath, and keep the micro tips apart so they do not knock against each other. Dry fully, lubricate the joints with a surgical instrument lubricant, and autoclave in the box at 134 C. The color coating goes through the same steam cycle as the rest of the tray.
Check the 1 mm tips under light every few cycles. A bent tip on fine forceps tears thin skin, and it is far cheaper to replace one forceps than to explain a scar. Every pattern in the set is sold on its own, so a single replacement is a simple order.

Made by Adas Instruments
Adas Instruments makes this set in its own workshop, and the tray can be changed before it ships: a second Desmarres in another blade width, more mosquito forceps, or plain satin steel instead of the color coating. Clinics, hospitals and distributors order direct, and distributors can have their own marking on the instruments.
The standard 30 piece set is 380 dollars. For a changed tray, send us the set name and your changes on WhatsApp or by email and we will reply with a quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
What instruments are in a blepharoplasty set?
This Adas Instruments set has 30 pieces: two Castroviejo calipers, Kaye, Ragnell, Iris and Castroviejo scissors, Iris, micro Adson and Adson Brown forceps, five micro mosquito forceps, a Desmarres lid retractor, skin hooks, three needle holders and two round scalpel handles.
Which scissors are used for blepharoplasty?
Kaye and Ragnell blepharoplasty scissors are the usual choice for skin and muscle excision, with curved Iris scissors for fat pockets. This set has all three, four of them with tungsten carbide edges, plus a Castroviejo spring scissors for very fine cuts.
Why does a blepharoplasty set need a caliper?
The caliper measures the distance from the lash line to the planned eyelid crease and the amount of skin to remove. Both lids must match, so this set includes two Castroviejo calipers, one to hold the first measurement while the second side is marked.
Can the rainbow coated instruments be autoclaved?
Yes. The color coating goes through standard steam sterilization at 134 C with the rest of the tray. Clean and dry the instruments before each cycle, and lubricate the ring joints, as with any stainless steel instrument.
Can I change the contents of the set?
Yes. Adas Instruments can add or remove patterns, change quantities, or supply the set in plain satin steel instead of the rainbow coating. Every instrument is also sold on its own, so worn pieces can be replaced singly.
